Even though we may garden alone, we never really garden on our own.

Why do we love garden talks, shows and programs so much? The answer is simple, we are a social lot. Even though we may garden alone, we never really garden on our own.   1. Gardening activities have taken over some of the functions that churches used to have especially in small towns. There are dozens of gardening societies I could join in the Philadelphia area, and they all have a large social element to them: lectures with baked goods, dinners, smaller groups within the group, plant sales, member directories, newsletters, emails, local and long distance trips, etc.
